Adoption Day 2009

It has been 2 years since Rubie's adoption was finalized. It has been almost 3 years since Rubie came home with us. Here is a slideshow of our journey so far, starting with the day we met...

Hat

Uncle Joe gave this hat to Rubie during a recent visit to his house. Of course, Rubie loves anything that comes from Uncle Joe - and the hat is no exception. I have different feelings about the hat, and where exactly I am supposed to store it, but that is for another place and time.

The Lemon Festival

Every year, Upland holds a Lemon Festival. Leilani's mom invited us to go, so we went. Rubie kept calling it the lemon shop. All was going very well until she had to use the potty.

There were only port-a-potties available, so I held my breath and brought her in. She was so horrified by what she saw, shall we say, "floating" in there, that she ran out. She didn't understand why someone left their poop in there. I tried to explain that it is generally where you leave it, but she was having none of it. It literally ruined her trip - she wouldn't even go on anymore rides. I never thought I would see the day that I would beg a tattoo shop to use their restroom, but trust me, it was the Ritz compared to the port-a-potty.

The first thing she told her dad when we got home was, "there was a yucky potty at the lemon shop."

Here are some pictures from before the "incident"...

Um, calm down, Lani - you aren't really driving...

I love the look that Lani is giving Rubie, it's like saying, "um, why are you acting so crazy?" It's even funnier after seeing the picture above...

Seriously, we are in trouble. Watch out, spring break 2023...

On the Fridge

Here is a picture that Rubie drew. It is a picture of Ramon and Rubie (she is the one wearing the princess crown) under a rainbow. Seriously, it makes me want to cry. I hope that she always thinks of her life this way...

You can click on the picture for a closer view.

Hot.

Earlier this week, the temperature was in the triple digits (unusual for April), so Ramon set up the water table for Rubie.

Poor unsuspecting Frenchie was in for a watering can chase around the backyard...

Then it was time for a car wash...

Overheard...

Rubie: "Daddy, I love you more than polk-a-dots."
Daddy: "Rubie, I love you more than princesses."

Time For a New Episode of "Rubie Says"

These are a little hard to read, but here, Rubie says that bugs live "in the flood." I guess I should be thankful that she didn't say, "in them house" like Ariana...

Clearly paying attention as usual...

Does the girl listen at all?...

Easter 2009

Our Easter began at 5:45 when Rubie woke up (at her regular time). The Easter bunny left bunny prints for Rubie to follow to find her basket...

Yep, it's 5:45 and Rubie is eating a chocolate bunny while wearing Halloween pajamas...

Speaking of clothing, doesn't Savoeun look lovely in her plaid, flowery, striped combination?

Rubie went on her own personal egg hunt in our backyard (thanks to the eggs that gramma Pam sent)...

Thanks for the glasses, too, gramma Pam...

Then, it was off the Ramon's parent's house for their egg hunt. Henry found one hard boiled egg, and that was all he needed. He carried it around for the rest of the hunt...

Easter Eggs

Yesterday, we dyed Easter eggs. Rubie loves anything crafty. Here she is waiting for us to get everything ready...

She chose one egg to color on, and then dip into every color dye.

She started with pink, and then continued on down the line...

Final result, oh wait, this is before she dropped it on the table and cracked it...

This is the final result...

Concentration...

Hmmm, that is quite the egg...

Here she is one year ago. This is the look she had when she dropped (and cracked) last year's eggs...

The Life of a 3 Year Old

I was wiping Rubie's nose when this conversation took place:

M: Why do you have so many boogies?
R: Because I need them.
M: Why?
R: Because I need to eat them.

yum. Remind me to bring this one up again later in life.
